It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Parker, beloved son, brother and uncle. Jim was a lifelong resident of Lewiston and Auburn, graduating from Edward Little in 1966. Jim attended the University of Southern Maine, and 1968 was drafted into the Army. He served with honor as an infantryman in Vietnam, earning the rank of sergeant.
Jim was a jokester, an excellent singer, a rock collector, cross country skier, and an animal lover. He hiked regularly, accompanied by one of the three dogs who shared his life for many years, Misty, Pippin and Oreo. He was a familiar face at Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary, the local SPCA, and any number of local ice cream stands.
In his later years Jim resided at the Maine Veterans' Home in South Paris, where he was lovingly cared for until his last breath. His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the staff, whose kindness and attention made Jim's time there so special.
Jim is survived by his sister, Priscilla Agurkis, nieces, Lisa Lockhart and Stephanie Agurkis, and Stephanie's husband, Briggs Seekins, as well his 14-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Oreo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of James to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society at gahumane.org/give/general-donations/ or the South Paris Veterans Home at https://mainevets.charityproud.org/Donate/Index/20904
