Janet “Jan” Fox, 78, of Poland, Maine, passed away peacefully at her home on September 29, 2026. She was born in Lewiston, Maine, on August 24, 1948, to Florence and Romule "Butch" Martin, and was the beloved wife of Dennis Fox, with whom she made her home in Poland.
Jan will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dennis; her children, Kimberly Lausier, Pauline Mailhot, and Martin Mailhot; daughter-in-law Cindy Mailhot and stepson, Matthew Fox. She also loved dearly twelve grandchildren—Paul Brunelle, Greg Mailhot, Katie Mailhot, Kaleigh Dube, Tyler Mailhot, Ian Mailhot, Michael Mailhot, Michael Guadagno, Olivia Guadagno, Kasey Sousa, Taryn Fox and Aliyah Fox—and 16 great-grandchildren, who brought much love and joy to her life.
Jan was preceded in death by her beloved son, Paul Mailhot Jr. She will be reunited with him in the hearts and memories of those who loved them both.
Jan was also predeceased by her sisters, Pauline Gagne and Terry Ray. She is survived by her sister, Anita Morin and her husband, Bob Morin, and her brother, Richard Martin and his wife, Monique Martin. She will also be lovingly remembered by her many cherished step-children, nieces, nephews, and their families who held a special place in her heart.
After many years of dedicated service, Jan retired from Dead River Oil Company. She enjoyed keeping busy and spending time with the people she loved. Weekends were often spent playing cards with friends and family, sharing laughter and good company around the table. She spent many years enjoying the camaraderie and competition of bowling leagues and could rarely pass up the opportunity to visit a good casino or enjoy a game of bingo. She followed the Red Sox and attended games when she could.
Jan had a wonderful sense of humor and had a special gift for making people feel welcome and loved. She treasured having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her home, where she was always happy to see them and often had a special treat waiting for them. She also loved visiting them and never seemed to arrive without something special to share. Jan had a generous heart and an open door, welcoming people into her home and, just as importantly, into her family. She accepted people for who they were and made them feel that they belonged. Her warmth, laughter, generosity, and unconditional love will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
As Jan would say, "there..."
A Celebration of Life for Janet will be held on October 11, 2026 from 1PM to 4PM at Brookdale Village Community Center, 384 Hardscrabble Rd, Poland, ME 04274.
