LEWISTON: John Russell Wing, 55 of Sabattus, formerly of Auburn, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2018 after a courageous two year battle with lung and brain cancer. In the end, John was surrounded by his loving family who he cherished dearly. John was born in Lewiston on April 15, 1963. He attended Lewiston elementary schools and Oxford Hill Comprehensive High School. John married his soul mate, the former Linda Meservier in 1983 and they were to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary on November 5th.

John worked at Libby Mill from 1984 until its closing in 1991 and served as its ALF-CIO Union Representative. John worked at the City of Auburn in the Highway Department for 25 years and most recently served as Highway Supervisor. His magnetic personality always took center stage when he interacted with the public leading many residents to ask for him personally.

John was a talented local musician who played many venues around town. We are so sorry for your loss. John was the greatest person you could ever meet. he loved everyone, never having a bad word to say about anyone. anyone who came in contact with him saw a very loving person. I first met him at the Auburn flea market on Minot Ave. shortly after found out my wife and John were cousins when we opened a booth there, we bought out his booth shortly after. as time went on he sold us more guitars amps and die-cast cars. we will miss him dearly! John our friend rest in peace & keep on picking in Heaven so the angels can dance. till me meet again, Happy Trails To You!

Linda & family. So sorry to here that John passed. He was truly a 'Gentle Giant'. I can still see him ride by on his beautiful Orange Harley waving. One day he stopped in front of my house in his Mustang, smiled, and let her rip. He was a very special man. God bless you all, and let you heal. Love you, 'Squirt. Bob & Gail.

“...I'll take this soul that's inside me now
Like a brand new friend
I'll forever know.
I've got this light
And the will to show
I will always be better than before...” (E. Vedder)

I was listening to this song earlier today and I thought of you, Uncle John. I will always remember you as humorous and lighthearted in every situation. Even in a moment such as this, I can only imagine you’d somehow find a way to make us laugh. My heart is with Aunt Linda, Kate, Emma, and Jon during this difficult time.

(So I shall include a humorous photo)

Where do I begin? I will always remember my Uncle John taking me to Kmart to buy a tape. He asked me what I was buying and I said Jodeci but he thought I said Genesis. It makes me smile to this day. Not to mention his warm smile. I will have those memories and think of him constantly proudly although I’ve been away so long. Love you Uncle John. He’s back together with his band mate
