

AUBURN – Joseph Herbert Marks, 67, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 24, 2016 at the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice House. He was born in Middletown, Connecticut on June 1, 1948 the son of the late Herbert and Helen (Denert) Marks. On November 4, 1972 Joseph married his beloved Marian (Keegan) Marks, and they shared 43 loving years of marriage. At the young age of 13, he started his first job at a plant nursery, and worked continually with various jobs until his retirement. While still in college and immediately after graduation he was Supervisor of the Connecticut Dept. of Tourism Information Centers and Executive Secretary of the Connecticut Chapter of FFA (Future Farmers of America). He loved anything to do with the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, or cutting firewood. His main career reflected his love for the outdoors, as he began working at his life-long dream as a conservation officer/game warden, completing his career as Conservation Sergeant. Joseph moved to the Wales area from Connecticut after retiring in 1994. After moving to Maine his working spirit had not faded, as he worked in the Walmart sporting goods department for 8 years. During his lifetime, Joseph belonged to many groups, clubs and organizations including, Alumni of the University of Connecticut, brother of Alpha Gamma Rho, Audubon Society, Joshua Chamberlain Civil War Roundtable, Nature Conservancy, and the Sharon Land Trust in Sharon, CT, and lifetime member of the National Wildlife Federation. Joseph still shared close friendships of nearly 50 years. Joseph is survived by his wife and two dogs, Sophie and Cocoa; two brothers, Jerry and his wife Charlotte of Middletown, CT, and David and his wife Melodye of Newark, DE; nieces, Elizabeth Juviler, Karen Nelson, Christine Marks, and their families; nephews, Adam Marks, Derek Fero, Roger Marks, and their families, including many great-nephews and great-nieces.
