

Bangor - Katherine L. "Kitty" Coleman, age 90, a resident of Ross Manor in Bangor and formerly of Greene, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning November 15th at Ross Manor. She was born in Philadelphia, PA July 3, 1921, the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Weddell) Grubnau. Soon thereafter, her family moved to Limerick, Maine. Katherine was educated in Portland schools and graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School with the class of 1940. Following high school, she attended the Katherine Gibbs School of Business in Portland. On March 10, 1955, Kitty married Harry Coleman who predeceased her in 1994. She was a devoted Catholic and longtime communicant of St. Francis Church in Greene. Among her favorite enjoyments were quality times with her family and grandchildren, flowers of all types and especially her deep love of horses from a young age. For many years Kitty and Harry owned and operated Coleman Stables in Lewiston, caring for and training of harness racing horses. Her husband Harry was also a longtime and well-known driver as they travelled and raced all over Maine and New England for many years. She was a loving , devoted and hard-working wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. The family wishes to thank all staff and residents at Ross Manor for the compassion, care and friendship shown to Kitty during her many years there.She leaves two sons Michael Coleman and wife Sheila of Holden, ME, and Tim Coleman and wife Louise of Lewiston; her daughter Patricia Varnum and husband Luke of Greene; seven grandchildren Patrick Coleman and wife Lori, Katie Coleman, Sean Clements, Alison Coleman, Ryan Coleman, Katherine Varnum and Laura Varnum; and three great-grandchildren Ellen, Audrey and Eli Coleman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus on Fri. 10 AM. Graveside Committal prayers will follow at Valley Cemetery, Rt. 202 in Greene. At her request, there are no visiting hours.
