Mae Grant Donahue

June 28, 1922 – September 23, 2025

Mae Grant Donahue, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, at the age of 103.

Born June 28, 1922, to Amos Cleon Grant, Sr. and Myrna Pratt, Mae grew up in Maine and graduated from Leavitt High School in 1939. On June 28, 1942, she married the love of her life, Allen Donahue, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage until his passing in November of 1997.

Mae built a long and meaningful career as an accountant with R.I. Mitchell and Hannaford Brothers. Beyond her work, she was deeply involved in her community. A faithful and longtime member of Court Street Baptist Church, Mae served on several boards and committees and was always eager to lend a hand, including preparing snacks for Vacation Bible School.

She also found great joy in dancing. Mae was a longtime member of several square dance clubs and held honorary membership with the Sage Swingers of Brunswick.

Mae is survived by her son, Stephen and his wife Jan of Sevierville, TN; her cherished grandchildren, Steven and Mandy Anderson of Hicksville, NY; Audrey Sollin of Hicksville, NY; James Donahue and Alicen Cowan of Auburn, ME; and Jennifer and Steve Knox of GA. She also leaves behind her adored great-grandchildren Anya, Kyle, Savannah, Stephanie, Joey, and Ryker.

Mae will be remembered for her devotion to family, her strong faith, her love of community, and her favorite color—purple, which always brought a sparkle of joy to her life.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation for Mae on Thursday, October 2nd from 1PM to 2PM at East Auburn Baptist Church, 560 Park Avenue Auburn, ME 04210. A Funeral Service will follow at 2PM. Committal Prayers will take place at 3PM at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 980 Turner Street, Auburn, ME 04210.

The family is requesting for guests to wear purple in honor of Mae and her favorite color.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Court Street Baptist Church, 129 Court Street Auburn, ME 04210.
