

LEWISTON- Michael Thomas Hansen of Auburn, Maine is now rejoicing in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. He passed from this earth on Sunday August 16, 2026, in the presence of immediate family and close friends singing hymns and praise songs at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, ME.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Hansen; his children John Hansen, Amelia (Ian) Pullen and Laura (Ethan) Foss; his adopted grandchildren Ryleigh and Lyla Hansen and his grandchildren Aliza, Wilhelmina and Ozro Pullen, Elodie, Grant and Maisie Foss; and three siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Jacqueline Hansen.
Born on September 11, 1957, in Portland, ME, Michael was known for living a full life despite many physical disabilities that affected his daily life.
In his early years he lived in New York with his family and had fond memories of vacationing to his Grandparents house on Pleasant Lake in Casco, ME. Throughout high school he pursued soccer, playing the drums and running track while moving to Maine in 1969. Due to his soccer skills, he also became the field goal kicker for Portland High School and could kick a 45-yard field goal. The brave teenager hitchhiked twice, once to Texas and once to Montreal. He graduated from Portland High School in 1975. He struggled with drugs and substance abuse throughout his early years until he met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at age 43 in the year 2000 the same year he was baptized at United Baptist Church.
During that timeframe he entered the car sales profession in 1984 and rose to be one of most accomplished Car Sales Professionals at Lee Auto Mall working there for a total of 27 years and retiring in 2016. In that same year, Lee officially named the #1 Retail Sales Award the “Mike Hansen Award” in his honor.
His professional accomplishments were not to be outdone by his musical accomplishments. He was a talented singer and drummer and especially loved Gospel, Latin and Jazz music. He performed with “A Moment’s Notice”, a local Jazz Quartet since the mid-1990s and performed in prior years with other groups like The Washington Brothers, Salt, Timbrel, Joyce Spring and others.
He was pivotal in the foundation and establishment of Sheltered by Jesus L/A located in Lewiston in 2018. He oversaw all aspects of the operation including teaching weekly Bible Studies, organizing the Saturday service, and coordinating personal needs for many. He established great friendships and knew all the guys by name. Approximately 500 men have been served and impacted through the Shelter since opening.
He served as a deacon and trustee at United Baptist Church during the late 1990s and was instrumental in the merger of United Baptist Church and New Hope Bible Church in 2011 forming Unity Bible Church in Lewiston. He was a faithful servant and Elder, teaching weekly Bible Studies, preaching and leading worship for more than 20 years. He will be fondly remembered for his passion for the Lord Jesus and his love for others.
Funeral Services honoring Michael's life will be celebrated on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 3:00 PM at East Auburn Baptist Church 560 Park Avenue in Auburn. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 2-3 PM prior to the service at East Auburn Baptist Church.
