Canton - Mildred Vickery Long, age 97, of Madrid Twp, ME passed away Sunday evening December 20, 2015 at The Victorian Villa in Canton. Mildred was born in Auburn, ME on December 5, 1918 to Mildred (Parsons) and Robert Vickery. She married Albion Long on May 8, 1938 at her grandparent's farm on Maple Hill in Auburn. They were together for 61 years before he passed away. She then went to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Douglas Hardy. Mildred was very proud of her five generation family. They meant the world to her and it was so very sad to watch her dementia erase them one by one from her memory. We were so fortunate in the wonderful and loving care Mildred received in the last years of her life at the Victorian Villa in Canton. The Villa staff and Beacon Hospice staff provided us all with the support we needed to deal with this heart-breaking disease. Mildred is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Beth and Douglas Hardy of Madrid Twp, ME; her grandson and his wife Brian and Sherri Hardy of Turner; her great-grandson and his wife Brandon and Terri Hardy of Somersworth, NH; her great-granddaughter and her husband Erin and Raymond Cote Jr. of Livermore, ME and her four great-great grandchildren Alexis Rae Cote and Kelbe Tyler Cote of Livermore, ME and Charles Douglas Hardy and Lila Marie Hardy of Somersworth, NH. Mildred was predeceased by her son Merritt David Long on February 25, 1955 and her husband Al on March 2, 2000. You are invited to share your thoughts, condolences and fond memories with Mildred's family by visiting their online guestbook at:www.thefortingroupauburn.com At her prior request, there is no visitation and a private graveside service will take place at a later date.
