AUBURN- Norman Bradford Merrill Jr.,” Brad,” 82 of Auburn, Maine, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at The Hospice House. He was born on February 29, 1944, in Lewiston, to Kathleen Carol (Seger) Merrill and Norman Bradford Merrill Sr.
Brad met the love of his life and high school sweetheart Elaine while attending Edward Little High School. They were married just weeks after graduating in 1963.
He was a proud Christian and a man whose faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of several churches throughout his life and cherished the relationships and community he found through his faith.
Brad proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 21 years and served in the Vietnam War. Throughout his life, Brad and his family had the opportunity to live in many places, including Panama where some of he and Elaine’s best memories were made. While in the military, they lived in North Dakota, Texas and New Jersey before settling back in Maine. He took great pride in obtaining his welder certification while working for the military. Following his military service, he continued working at Togus VA Medical Center in maintenance.
Later on in life they lived in New Jersey, South Carolina, Maine and Florida. He enjoyed the experiences and friendships that came with each new chapter and especially valued the time spent with his family.
Brad is survived by his children, Joyce Paradis and her husband, Gene, Brad Merrill and his wife, Sandy and Nate Merrill and his wife, Angie; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; his brother, Sherwood Merrill and his wife, Irene; his sister, Elaine and her husband Curt; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elaine Merrill, who passed away on July 22, 2025, and by his sibling, Dana Merrill.
Brad will be remembered for his strong Christian faith, his dedication to his family, his years of military service, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey. His family will forever cherish the memories they made with him, and the legacy of love, faith, and perseverance he leaves behind.
Brad’s visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 6:00-8:00PM at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 217 Turner Street, Auburn. His memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 2, at 6:00PM at East Auburn Baptist Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. His graveside service will be private at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to East Auburn Baptist Church.
