Born in Lewiston November 21, 1932 to Rita (Houle) and Ralph Polley, Norman was educated at St. Joseph’s Parochial School. For over three and a half decades, “Norm” was a shoe cutter at Knapp Shoes. He later worked at Johns Manville, and during his (semi) retirement worked at Hannaford assisting Customers any way he could.
Norm was a quick-witted, brutally honest Man that would never pass a Stranger in need. Whether advising someone their License Plate was expired or stopping to offer a child a piece of gum, Norm would always treat People with respect. His kindness knew no boundaries, and despite is sometimes gruff presentation, he truly had a heart of gold.
Norm’s life revolved around his physical abilities. As a Decorated U.S. Combat Army Soldier (Serving during the Korean War) he played Softball, and later in local leagues. An avid water skier (and eventually snow skier), tennis player, bowler; Norm would try anything. Norm’s ultimate pastime was Golf. For years he was a Member of Fairlawn Country Club where he eventually shared his passion with the one true love of his life, his wife Linette. Norm and “Lenny” as he referred to her, were a staple in the Golf Community at Fairlawn for years. They Wintered in Florida, and planed years of vacations around their love of the sport. Golf remains a staple in the Polley Household, and Norm will always be remembered affectionately as a Golfer.
Norman and Linette were married June 11, 1953 at St. Peter’s Church. For nearly 68 years the two lived life as a Team. Always together, supporting each other with mutual respect, until his last breath Norm was grateful to his one love. The marriage of Norm and Lenny will remain the perfect example of commitment to not only their Family, but all that knew them.
Norman is survived by his loving wife, Linette (Bourgoin), his Son Michael and Partner Nancy (Bouffard) of Jonesborough TN, his daughter Linda (McCabe) of Spring Hill, FL, Granddaughters Cassidy (Howard) and Husband David of Auburn, Mackenzie of Florida, Grandsons Zachary of Auburn, Camden, and Bowdoin, also of Florida, and Great grandson Chanze Michael Polley of Auburn.
Norman was pre-deceased by his Parents, Rita and Ralph Polley, 3 Brothers, and 2 Sisters.
