

Auburn – Richard A. Gammon, 82 of Auburn, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013 after a brief illness. He died peacefully at home with his family at his side. Dick was born in Auburn, Nov. 13, 1930, son of the late Arthur L. and Ella Descoteau Gammon. He was educated in Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School as class president in 1951. He was married to the love of his life Rita P. Melloni in 1955. Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was employed for 34 years at Central Maine Power Company, last serving as a Customer Service Advisor. Dick was an active participant at St. Louis and Sacred Heart Churches, where he was a member of the Parish Council and Church Life Commission, served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD classes. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy, CAMRA, a CMP retirement organization, and served as a commissioner for the Auburn Housing Authority. He coached little league and softball. Dick sang in a Barbershop Quartet and his hobbies included woodworking, gardening, dancing, walking and golf. He greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was loved dearly by all who met him. He is survived by his wife Rita of Auburn; two sons, Michael Gammon of Auburn; Rick Gammon and wife Lynne of Portland; a daughter Elaine Gammon and husband Joe Harrigan of Portland; three grandchildren, Erica Langelier and husband Romaine of Wyoming, Andrea Gammon and Jocelyn Gammon; one grandson Maximus Asa Moss, deceased; three great grandchildren; a brother Donald Gammon and wife Esther of Auburn.
