Richard Anthony Morhauser

Richard was born in Philadelphia PA on September 1, 1925 to Justine and Albert Morhauser. His early years were spent in Woodlyn NJ with his extended family of mother, sister Constance,

maternal grandparents and aunts and uncles. He graduated from Collingswood High School in 1943. In 1948 he married Lorriane Praul after having met her at a local community dance in

Woodlynn, NJ. They were together for 25 years.

After high school, Dick attended night school while working in Philadelphia and received an accounting certificate from Wharton School of Business in 1950. Later while also working he attended night school at Rutgers University (after having been out of the state for 6 years) and received a B.S in Business Administration (with honors) in 1964.

Dick’s first office job was with Campbell Soup in Camden, NJ where he was a payroll clerk. Over the next 25+ years he climbed the corporate ladder from accounting clerk to plant manager to

corporate controller to Chief Financial Officer of various manufacturing companies from New Jersey to North Carolina to Pennsylvania to Connecticut. During those years he raised a family of 3 daughters with Lorriane and made many lifelong friends.

And then in the early 1970s he started working in Lewiston Maine at Dori Shoe. There he met Jeanne􀆩e Dennis (and the whole Dennis clan) and embarked upon another long and happy marriage of 41 years until Jeannette’s passing in 2015.

Richard’s passions were dancing, jazz music, reading, problem solving, traveling, cooking, and storytelling. He was known for always having a ready joke to tell, with the most current ones

being of the “Dad jokes” variety. He also felt strongly about community service so was on the board of the Auburn Library and the Patient Advisory Board of the Central Maine Medical

Center. Earlier while living in Boone, North Carolina he was Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Watauga County Hospital. In addition, over his lifetime Richard donated over 113 pints of blood to the American Red Cross.

Besides Jeannette, Dick was preceded in death by his mother Justine, sister Connie Flesher and niece Justine Schmidt. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Morhauser of California, Arlene

(David) Delgado of Colorado and Marianne (Peter) Nielson of Connecticut, nephew Paul (Gail) Flesher of Delaware, and their sons Jim (Jaxson Batter) Flesher of California and Dan Flesher

(Jen ) of Colorado, nephew in-law Robert Schmidt and his sons Justin Schmidt of New York and Alex Schmidt (and family) of Stowe Vermont. Dick’s Dennis closest family survivors include his

sister-in-law, Diane Dennis of Auburn, nephew Gary Dennis of Auburn, and nephew Paul Obie of Portland as well as numerous Dennis family cousins, nieces and nephews.
