He was educated in Lewiston schools and later pursued courses that prepared him for a career as a shoe executive. In 1975, Robert, a talented and skilled carpenter, became a proud member of the Carpenters and Millwright Union. A man of deep faith, he was also a longtime member of Holy Family Church.
Robert was blessed to share his life with two remarkable women. He married his first wife, Rita (Berube), in 1953, and together they built a life of love and family over 60 years until her passing in 2014. The following year, he found joy again with Lorraine (Morin), who became his loving companion and wife. Together, Robert and Lorraine cherished time spent dancing, sharing meals, and enjoying family gatherings.
Robert will be fondly remembered for his willingness to help anyone in need. He delighted in lending his skills to family building projects and repairs, and he was the life of the party—always ready with a playful trick, a tune on his harmonica, or by bringing his puppet, Frenchie, to life for his grandchildren. He cherished his home and took joy in gathering loved ones around the pool, where he taught grandchildren to swim and dive. One of his sweetest traditions was arriving with a handmade tray of ice cream cones, much to the delight of the little faces that adored him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Lorraine; his son, Dan and his wife Darlene; his daughters, Diane Fournier, Joyce and her husband Paul Gagnon, and Susan and her husband Stephen Canciani. Affectionately known as “Pepere,” Robert was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him great joy. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Raymond Berube.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Henry, Eugene, and Roger, and his sisters Jeannine Gaudet and Cecile Gagne.
Robert’s legacy is one of family, faith, and love — a life well-lived and a man deeply cherished.
