

Auburn - Roger F. Obie passed away at the Maine Veteran’s Home in South Paris on March 9, 2016 after struggling with Alzheimer’s disease. Roger was born in Auburn on November 12, 1923 to Thomas J. and Annie (Mercier) Obie. Roger graduated from Walton High School in Auburn and spent most of his spare time playing sports which he loved very much. After high school Roger worked on Liberty ships being built in South Portland for WWII. He soon joined the Coast Guard and served as a Radio Man 3rd Class until the war ended. He was a lifelong lover of big band music which he had the pleasure of experiencing live in NY City during the early forties when his ship was in port. Roger had several jobs during his working career but spent the most time as a hand sewer in various shoe shops and working for Commercial Welding in Portland, Maine. Roger loved the Lord first and spent his life doing the best he could with what he had and never complaining about tough times. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who had the opportunity to know him and share his kindness and good nature. He is survived by his children: Paul Obie and his wife Sharon of South Portland, Ronald Obie of Lewiston and Ann Busemeyer and her husband Michael of Cincinnati, OH. He also leaves behind his loving sisters Helen, Antoinette, and Irene; grandchildren Tamra Lambert and her husband Greg, Brandon Obie and his wife Kristiana, Justin Obie, Matthew, Katie, and Ben Busemeyer, along with his great-grandchildren Kaelyn and Addison Obie, Jaxon and Annabella Lambert, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving wife Theresa; parents Thomas and Annie; siblings Bertrand, Wilfred, Robert, Roland, Arthur, Maurice, Normand, Albert and Constance. The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Maine Veteran’s Home South Paris for the care and love they shared with Roger over the last 3-1/2 years. He appreciated each and every one of you very much.

Visitation will be held at Fortin / Auburn on Friday March 18 from 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn on Saturday March 19 at 11am with committal prayers to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston. There will be a gathering of remembrance for Roger after the committal service at the home of Richard Morhauser, 99 Vista Drive, Auburn, Maine.Arrangements are under the care and direction of The Fortin Group Funeral Home, Cremation and Monument Service, 217 Turner St., Auburn. 783-8545.
