The eldest son of seven children, he was born March 8, 1923, to Aime and Rose Anna (Rodrique) Soucy. He was educated locally, leaving elementary school at a young age to help raise and care for his siblings and mother. He joined the National Guard at the age of 16. While in the Guard, World War II started, and he spent three years in the Army.
He was a member of the L&A Ski Club and especially enjoyed skiing Sugarloaf Mt. He worked numerous jobs but his most memorable started in 1959 with the opening of the Mammoth Mart Department Store on Main St. Lewiston, where he met his future wife, Patricia Paradis. They were married in 1967 at Our Lady of The Rosary Church.
Upon the closing of the Mammoth Mart, he went to work for Kings Dept. Store in Auburn and was employed there for ten years until it closed. In 1983 he went to Hall and Knight Hardware and remained employed there until the company was sold.
Roland and Pat enjoyed their retirement, traveling around the country as guests of his sister, Rita, and her husband Bob, in their RV. One of his happiest road trip memories was seeing his wife’s enjoyment at Disney and her delight at having her picture taken with Mickey Mouse. They were blessed with fifty happy years together.
Pat, his beloved wife and best friend passed away October 22, 2017, at the age of 93. He was also predeceased by his sisters Irene Picano, Anne Morin, and Lillian King, brothers infant Soucy and Robert Soucy. Roland is survived by his youngest sister, Rita Richards of Texas; nieces and nephews, Maryjane King, Roger Morin, Michael Morin, Kathy Richards McNally, Susan Barber, Bruce Richards, Roland Soucy, Carol Picano, Jackie Gahagan, Constance Donoghue, Michael Gahagan and Richard Pomerleau. He was a kind and giving husband, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle and he will be deeply missed.
