Tyler R. Cote

Known for his gregarious nature and infectious laughter, Tyler’s compassion, humor, and warmth touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He devoted his career to the care and well-being of animals as a proud and dedicated veterinarian. His love for animals was only surpassed by his love for his two beautiful children, who were his pride and joy.

Tyler is survived by his children Tobin and Aelin; his mother Diane Cote; father and stepmother David and Pauline Cote; sister Shannon Cote and her partner Ian Baird; brother Chad Cote; nephew Wyatt Cote and niece Libby Cote. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother Jeannette Cote, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Tyler was a 2001 graduate of Edward Little High School and went on to complete his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Maine Orono. In 2009, Tyler received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee School of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville.

For the past 16 years Tyler has been a local veterinarian in the Lewiston and Topsham areas, and his clients remember him as kind, compassionate, and caring. His empathy through the most difficult situations was a hallmark that made him such a special doctor.

An outdoorsman at heart, Tyler also considered himself a fisherman; a passion that he and his brother shared. In his 20’s and 30’s he spent as much time as possible snowboarding, hiking, camping and kayaking. He also loved music and often introduced new bands to his friends. As a dad, it was important to Tyler that he share his appreciation for nature, being active and having fun with his kids. Always making sure that they were surrounded with wonder, adventure and warmth.

Though he has left this world, those who knew Tyler will remember him for his huge spirit, fun-loving energy, and the joy he brought into every moment.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Midcoast Humane’s Pawsitive Support Program, so that Tyler's commitment to caring for animals may continue to make a difference in the world.
