

Augusta- Victor R. Belanger Sr. 91, of Jordan School Rd. in Auburn died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday August 27, at the Togus VA Hospital in Augusta. He was born June 12, 1923 in his Auburn home a son of the late Emile and Alice (Vaillancourt) Belanger. He was educated in local schools and attended Edward Little High School until he was drafted, he finished his schooling while in The US Army Air Corps. He also attended college at the University of Paris in France. Victor then was shipped out to Germany and landed on Omaha Beach during D-Day, from there he went thru eight more battles and also helped liberate dearth camps, he also survived 180 air raids while in England. He finished by training with the British Commandos. Victor married his longtime sweetheart Pauline (Pauly) Hinds on May 29, 1943 at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. They lived in Auburn where they raised there three children. He was a lumberjack for many years, working with his father, then for himself and then with his son. He loved being in the woods and working with the trees. He was a wealth of knowledge and many people relied on his abilities to help them out. He was very handy and enjoyed fixing and building things. He loved working on his old trucks and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going dancing with his wife Pauly in their younger years and going for rides and "junking" with her. He leaves his wife of almost 71 years Pauly of Auburn, his three children, Janine Gilbert and husband Butch of Turner, Linda Therrien and husband Normand of Auburn and Victor Elanger Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Auburn, nine grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren and one great great grandchild. he was predeceased by his two brothers Normand and Willie Belanger and three grandchildren: Victor Belanger III, Erin Belanger and Cathy Hamel. Visitation Fortin Auburn Saturday August 30, from 9-11 AM. Funeral will follow at the funeral home at 11 AM. Committal will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
