William H. “Bill” Nickerson, 92, of Livermore Falls, Maine, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025. Born in Orange, New Jersey, on January 12, 1933, Bill graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, in 1951 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in 1955. Shortly thereafter, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, stationed here in the States.
As a very young man, Bill held a number of interesting jobs — including an adventurous stint working on a banana boat — experiences that helped shape his curiosity about the world and his lifelong love of learning.
On December 19, 1955, Bill married the love of his life, Nancy Kantenwein of Franklin, New Jersey. Together they shared over 68 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, faith, and adventure. Throughout their life together, Bill and Nancy traveled to many countries around the world, exploring Thailand, Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, Egypt, and numerous parts of Europe, cherishing the memories and friendships they made along the way.
Bill enjoyed a lifelong career in banking, but his passions extended far beyond his profession. He had a vast love of classical music of all forms, and dabbled in various hobbies over the years including photography, stamp collecting, cooking, and was an avid gardener — cultivating beautiful flower gardens that graced their Livermore Falls property — along with his favorite pastime of reading, and was always eager to learn and explore new ideas, and anyone who knew Bill probably knew that his biggest passion of all, besides Nancy, was food— he loved a good meal, a sweet treat, and the joy of sharing food with family and friends. Above all, Bill’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He maintained a strong and devoted relationship with God and served as an active member of Emmanuel Assembly of God in Livermore Falls for many years, cherishing the fellowship and friendships he found there.
Bill is survived by his loving and beautiful wife of over 68 years, Nancy (Kantenwein) Nickerson; his three children, Douglas Nickerson of Norwood, PA; Wendy Nickerson and her husband Clarence Young of San Diego, CA; and Amy Noyes and her husband Randy Noyes of Winthrop, ME; three grandchildren, Stephanie Blumberg and partner Jared Hicks, Jacob Chicoine, Amanda Chicoine and her partner Mike Montagna, four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Vivian, Sullivan, and Arlo Chicoine; two nieces; and many loved friends from his church community.
An informal and intimate Celebration of Life was held at The Fortin & Pinette Group Funeral Home on Monday, September 8th. In lieu of flowers, Bill wished that donations may be made to Emmanuel Assembly of God in Livermore Falls or Hope Haven Mission in Lewiston.
