With heavy hearts and deep love, we share that Andrew Alan Richardson, 50, of Austin, Texas, sadly passed away on Saturday, October 24. Andy was born October 7, 1976, in Moline, Illinois, to his beloved mother, Araceli Richardson, and his father, Rickey Richardson, who both survive him. Andy was a remarkable individual whose life was both inspiring and filled with many challenges.
Andy was incredibly intelligent, with a curious mind and a quick wit. He loved engaging in passionate debates, always approaching discussions with thoughtfulness, humor, and respect. Those who knew him will remember his sharp insight and his love of conversation. His intense love for the game of chess often led to competitive games that were sometimes seemingly endless (especially the ‘castle’ move and the understated strength of the pawn). Despite battling two diseases that ravaged his body, Andy faced his life with kindness and with stoicism, enduring unimaginable hardships with dignity and a sense of humor that made his mother proud. His spirit remained unbroken, even as he fought daily battles against the pain he carried.
He found his greatest peace outdoors, cherishing nature and fishing—quiet mornings by the water were his happy place. A devoted dog dad to his faithful companion, Conner, Andy's love extended to all living beings. He also had a lifelong passion for 70’s and 80's music, often sharing his knowledge of lyrics and the stories behind the songs.
Andy will be remembered for his intelligence, kind heart, and loyalty to those he loved, both two-legged and four-legged. He is survived by his mother, Araceli Richardson, his beloved dog Conner, and his large family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
A private remembrance will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Andy's memory by spending time in nature, casting a line, playing a game of chess, listening to your favorite 80's song a little louder, and loving your pets a little extra.
Though his loss is immeasurable, Andy's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He was like a fern, always unfolding with something new and brighter, and his goodness will remain a cherished memory. Until we meet again, may we find comfort in nature and the star gazer beauty that he brought to our lives. We will miss you, Andy.
