A Licensed Landscape Architect, Barbara created beauty in the Austin area as a principal at RVi planning, and a board member on the Austin Parks Foundation. A plaque on Snake Island in Ladybird Lake commemorates her many contributions to the local environment.
In her personal life, Barbara shared a beautiful relationship of 26 years with her late husband Mark Austin, and their two children. She nurtured an extended network of family and friends at her beautiful home in Austin, hosting frequent home-cooked dinners and lively gatherings on her patio, amid her numerous flowering plants.
Barbara’s sense of adventure took her to many countries and continents - she was always up for a trip! Her sense of curiosity was unbounded, as was her sense of humor and love of beauty.
She is preceded in death by her parents Troy Jaynes Badgett and Martha Frances (Allison) Badgett, and husband Mark Austin. She is survived by son Nick Austin, his wife Madison, and three grandsons: Fritz, Miles, and Shepherd, all of New Braunfels; daughter Elizabeth (Betty) Austin and husband Daniel Grgas, of New York City; brother Brad Badgett and wife Trace Etienne, of Austin; and sister Becky Badgett and partner Terry Walch, of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The family thanks the staff of St. David’s Cancer Care Clinic for their kind, professional care, and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Austin Parks Foundation, or another outdoor charity. A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 10th from 3:00pm - 8:00pm at the family home.
