Lionicio Rodriguez was born at home in Lytton Springs, Texas, on October 27, 1938, to Alberto Heriberto Rodriguez and Juanita Martinez Rodriguez. He passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, at his daughter Lori Seymour’s home in Austin, Texas. Known to many as “Nicho” and to others as “Loy,” Lionicio spent his early years in Lytton Springs and Edinburg before making Austin his home. As a boy, he loved baseball and playing dodgeball with friends - with rocks. His stories often began with “Many moons ago…,” drawing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren into memories made unforgettable by his imagination and humor. Lionicio met Oralia Jasso while working at the Piccadilly Cafeteria on Congress Avenue. They married on June 29, 1958, made their first home on Pearl Street and shared 65 years of marriage. Together, they raised Rick and Lori and built a family that remained at the center of their lives. Lionicio learned to play the trumpet as a young man and later devoted countless hours to performing in his church’s Christmas pageant, while Oralia helped bring it to life through her work on the decorating committee. He served as a dedicated member at Primera Iglesia Bautista, Great Hills Baptist Church and First Baptist Church Dripping Springs.
After working at Superior Dairy, Lionicio began a long career in computer technology at IBM. Following retirement, he joined Austin ISD, helping install Apple computers and teaching educators how to use them. Lionicio loved to travel, especially to Colorado. He and Oralia took their children on camper adventures across North America and Mexico, later trading the camper for cruises that carried them to new destinations. He is survived by his children, Richard “Rick” Rodriguez and Lorraine “Lori” Lee Seymour; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Maria “Mary” Brewster, Esperanza “Hope” Kruse, Juanita “Jane” Lopez, Albert Rodriguez Jr. and Antonio “Tony” Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Oralia Jasso Rodriguez; his parents, Alberto and Juanita Rodriguez; and his son-in-law, Jon Alan Seymour.
Lionicio leaves a legacy of faith, family, hard work and adventure, remembered through the stories he loved to share. His life came full circle at home, beginning in the loving care of his mother, Juanita, and ending in the equally devoted care of his daughter, Lori, and son, Rick.
