Robert Scott Whitehair

Robert Scott Whitehair of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the age of 66. He was born on February 3, 1960, in Brownsville, Texas. Scott's early years were spent living on a military base in Fort Leonard Wood, then moved around to Springfield and Lockwood, Missouri. The family moved to Austin, Texas in 1970-71, and he then attended Bedichek Middle School and Crockett High School. Later on, he received his professional culinary certificate.

Scott worked mostly as a chef/cook at many upscale restaurants such as The Hyatt Regency Austin- Foothills Ballroom, The Hilton, Rainbow Inn, Convict Hill, Montana Mining Company, and Louie's 06 in Austin, Texas. He had a short stint working banquet at the Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort on Hawaii’s Big Island. Scott also worked at Motorola semiconductor division making wafers in Austin, Texas.

Scott retired and lived on family land in Bastrop, Texas, where he rescued animals from abusive environments and provided a safe place for them to live freely.

Scott is preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Whitehair, and nephew, Robert Preston Duane Cannon (Bobby).

Scott is survived by his mother, Alta Mae Whitehair; his sisters, Alta Lee Cannon and Dianne Lynn Whitehair; his brother-in-law, Steve Larsen; his niece, Barbara Bice, her husband and children; his donkeys, Jack and Daryl; his dogs, Bandit and Sky; and his Cat named Cat.

Scott was very kind and loyal. He would do anything he could to help fix anyone’s problems.

The family would like to thank Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas, Westminster Skilled Nursing, Austin Hospice, and Christopher House for the care and compassion they showed Scott in his final days.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life, which is TBD at this time.
