Stephen Raymond Johnson

Stephen was born in Malden, Massachusetts, into a large and loving family, the 3rd of 9 children. He lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family. He was a graduate of Northeast Regional Vocational School class of 1978. Upon completing high school, Stephen enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served for 22 years. During his distinguished military career, he was stationed in many places throughout the world including Germany, Korea, Japan and throughout the United States including California, Virginia, New York and Texas. He also proudly served in Kuwait during the Gulf War. His service reflected the qualities that defined him throughout his life, commitment, responsibility, courage, and a willingness to serve others.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, Stephen remained in Texas and began a 20-year career with the Austin Public Schools as a refrigeration and air conditioning technician.

While his military career was an important achievement, Stephen was first and foremost a loving partner, a devoted son, a cherished brother, uncle, and a member of a loving family.

Stephen was the beloved son of the late Raymond and Claire (Carey) Johnson and his loving Aunt, Patricia Carey. He is survived by his beloved partner of 30 years, Becky Ygnacio of Austin and was a devoted brother to Kathleen (Mike) Miranda of Billerica, MA; David (Linda) Johnson of Reading, MA; Tim (Karen) Johnson of Reading, MA; Michael (Renee) Johnson of Bradford, MA; Karen (Paul) Mahoney of Stoneham, MA; Annmarie Murphy of Haverhill, MA; Robert (Staci) Johnson of Malden, MA and the late Mark Johnson. Stephen was the cherished uncle of 12 nieces and nephews and his great niece.

His family takes comfort in knowing his years of service and the life he built with those he loved will remain part of his lasting legacy. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

The family would also like to extend a special thanks to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin for their sincere and loving care and DaVita Dialysis Center and its staff.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday August 17th, 2026, at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 W William Cannon Dr, Austin, TX 78749 from 5:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Mass will be held on Tuesday August 18th, 2026, at Santa Cruz Catholic Church, 1100 Main St, Buda, TX 78610 at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will be at Memory Lawn Memorial Park, 19106 San Marcos Hwy, Martindale, TX 78655 following the funeral mass.

A reception will follow at Mandola's Italian Kitchen, 4301 W. William Cannon Dr. Suite B-150. Austin, TX 78749.
