Alvin George Teixeira, husband of Joan (Rastall) Teixeira, passed away on October 8, 2026. He was born in Sanger, California and was the only child of Tony Teixeira and Virginia Chambers. He was very close to his stepmother, Isabel Teixeira, who was a mother to him from the time he was a teenager. When Tony and Isabel married, Alvin also gained a little brother, Allen Teixeira, who he loved very much.
Alvin graduated from Washington Union High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Fresno State University. He served two years in the US Army at Letterman hospital at the Presidio and was later recalled by the Army for ten months in 1961 during the Berlin Wall Crisis.
It was during his time in the Army that Alvin met the love of his life and partner in marriage for 65 years, Joan Rastall, who was an Army nurse. The two were married in 1961 and together they raised four sons: Lawrence (Kathy), Fredrick (Tara), Andrew and Matthew (Tami). Their family grew to include 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Following his military discharge, Alvin began a successful career with the Farm Credit System as an ag appraiser and loan officer. In the mid-1980’s Alvin started his own business appraising ag property. He later obtained his real estate broker’s license and enjoyed assisting local families buy and sell ag land. He reluctantly retired in 2022 after mobility issues made it impossible to show properties.
Alvin was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bakersfield, California, where he attended Mass for 52 years, was a lector and an indispensable member of the finance council for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 40 years, attaining the rank of Fourth Degree Knight, and was a Past Grand Knight. His family extends their gratitude to the St. Joseph’s Knights for their visits and prayers during Alvin’s final days.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Joan, and his sons, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving brother, Allen, and his wife, Nancy.
A visitation and praying of the rosary will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Monday, October 26th at St. Joseph’s Church in Bakersfield. A funeral Mass will be said at 10:00 am Tuesday, October 27th at St. Joseph’s. Graveside service will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
