Betty was born July 26, 1925, to Otto Ray Galey and Goldie Moon Galey in Bakersfield. Both sets of her grandparents had migrated here around 1904; the Galey family from England, via Canada; and the Moons from Kansas. Betty attended Freemont and Jefferson Elementary schools, Washington Jr. High and graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1943. Her interest was in journalism and she became editor of the Washington "Black and White," the East High "Kemal" and at Bakersfield Junior College, the "Renegade Rip."
In February 1943 at the tender age of seventeen, she applied for a job at the "Los Angeles Times" and was asked, "Can you stay?" She was assigned to the typing pool that day. In two weeks time, she was elevated to the Promotion Department where she wrote fillers and articles which featured "Times Coming Attractions." Betty worked on a Victory Garden project and Silver Star awards to mothers of wounded soldiers. In September, she returned home to attend Bakersfield Junior College.
In January 1946 she married William Archer Scott from Garnett, Kansas when he returned from the Army where he had served in the South Pacific arena. The couple had three children, Dawna Lynn, Merry Ann, and William Kip. In the children's school years she was very active in PTA.
She has belonged to Sigma Chapter of Phi Epsilon Phi Sorority and to the Ariels, an auxiliary of the Children's Home Society. After her children were all in school, she went to work at Compton Jr. High before moving to the Bakersfield City School District office where she saw to the ordering and distribution of textbooks. After 25 years she retired so could indulge in gardening, bridge playing and traveling. Her adventurous nature lead her to walk on the Great Wall in China, drink wine in a Polish winery, visit a coffee plantation in Costa Rica, fish in Alaska, go shopping in Hong Kong, ride an elephant in India, gamble in Macau and take in the Roman ruins in Ephesus where the Bible believes Mary was born.
In June 1992, she reconnected with Bill Isaacs, her true soul mate, after they attended their E.B.H.S. reunion, and they were married 49 years after they met. She acquired two more adult daughters, Jan and Jill. The couple enjoyed a large circle of friends, including many former E.B alumni, stayed busy with E.B. Rotary activities, and enjoyed spending time at their mountain cabin at Shirley Meadows Mountain.
Betty lost Bill in 2014. She is survived by her daughter Dawna Adams and husband Michael of Jacksonville, Florida, daughter Merry Scott, son Kip Scott and wife Kelley and many grandchildren and their families. She also leaves behind her favorite brother, Don Galey and wife Jean, her 2 stepdaughters Jan Jasper and her husband Bob, Jill Beasley and her husband Ron We'll remember most that Betty had a great zest for life, an indomitable spirit, loved learning new things and was a loving wife and mother. Always generous and extremely patriotic, she revered the flag and the laws of our great nation.
