Bill was born in Bakersfield on September 22, 1948, to Bill and Dolores Galloway. He met the love of his life, Diane, while attending BHS in 1964. They were married in 1969, and the two loved and laughed for nearly 17 years before having their only daughter, Alyssa, in 1985.
In the early 1970’s, Bill fell in love with teaching junior high, and became a science teacher at Haven Drive, Thompson and Actis Jr. High Schools. He eventually left teaching and became the counselor at Tevis and vice-principal at Thompson, before becoming the principal at Actis Jr. High, where he remained until his retirement in 2009.
In early 2009, Bill was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. He referred to this journey as his “victory lap,” and each day of his 17-month-long battle proved that life must be celebrated at every possible moment.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 41 years, Diane, and his daughter Alyssa; sister, Karen Christiansen, and brother, DeWayne Galloway; sisters-in-law Dona Faz and Kay Newman; brothers-in-law Jess Faz and Larry Christiansen; nieces Sarah Hebert, Stephanie Paine, Lara Ekwall, Rochelle Vaughan and Tanya Mauldin; and Bisou and Bleu, his beloved pets. Bill and his family would like to thank Dr. Raj Patel and Dr. Ravi Patel, and our amazing team at CBCC - Mary, Liz, and Keri.
Per Bill’s request, no funeral will be held at this time. However, a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 14 at 7.30 pm, at the home of Ellen and Doug Andersen (10413 Claridge Ct).
In lieu of flowers, Bill requested that you take a moment to spend with those close to you and let them know that you love them. Those who would like may make donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org).
