Carmelo was the third child of eight and a beloved brother to Jerry, Paul (Mona Adame), Bobby (Sandy Adame), Mike (Nahayme Candia), Amada, Linda (Bodie Chase) and Sonya. He attended local schools and graduated from Foothill High School in 1966. His college career was interrupted when he was drafted. He served in the Army with the 173rd Airborne from 1968 through 1970 including a year in Vietnam. He held a deep and enduring bond with his fellow Vietnam veterans, a brotherhood forged in shared experience and sacrifice.
Upon returning home to Bakersfield, he reconnected with the love of his life Diane Franklin. Their marriage on August 23, 1975, began a crazy, adventurous and loving journey that lasted 49 years, blessed with two children, Jennifer (Nick Mathias) and Drew, and later, three cherished grandchildren, Aubrey (James Caffrey), Little Drew and Rio.
Carmelo's professional journey began in banking, which paved the way for a successful career in the oil industry. He worked with various companies before establishing his own business. He was highly regarded for his expertise in pumping units, leading crews in Oman, and for his dedication to mentoring others.
Those who knew Carmelo recognized his natural athletic talent, excelling in baseball, golf, and tennis. He will be fondly remembered for his magnetic personality, quick wit, kind spirit, legendary barbecues, and love of oldies music.
Carmelo's faith was a constant throughout his life, and in his later years, he deepened his connection with God through his involvement with Parkside Church and the guidance of Hank Hoss. During his final days, he was met with an extraordinary outpouring of affection and support from his friends and family.
Carmelo is now reunited in heaven with his father, mother, brother Paul, dog Penelope and his beloved fellow Vietnam veterans.
