Funeral services for Cathy Black, 74, a resident of Bakersfield will be held at 1:00
p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Valley Baptist Church, Olive Drive Campus,
5500 Olive Dr, Bakersfield, CA. This celebration of Cathy’s life will also include a
Southern Baptist pastor that has been very important in her life, Dr. John May of
Texas. The church is kindly offering refreshments afterwards.
Cathy was born July 15, 1943 in Pensacola, Florida, the daughter of Frances and
Rudolph Loyal of Florida. She had one brother, Stephen, who passed away in
2005. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Randall S. Black, her daughter
Alecia Thornton and son-in-law Chad Thornton, also of Bakersfield, CA.
While she did have a brief career as a PBX operator, she considered her true
vocation being a wife and mother. She always made sure her husband (whom she
loved like no other could) returned to a clean home and great meal no matter what
time Randy came home from his job with the railroad. Her daughter was her
pride and joy. She always made sure to enrich Alecia's life in large and small ways
and would go without herself if that was not possible.
Cathy passed away quietly in her sleep early Monday morning, June 11, 2018 at the
home she shared with Randy. She was being watched over by one of several wonderful caregivers as her husband and daughter did not want her left alone at
any time in her final days.
Flowers may be sent in Cathy's name to Valley Baptist Church, Olive Drive Campus,
5500 Olive Dr, Bakersfield, CA. Her favorite blooms were carnations and roses.
Memorial donations may be made to her favorite charity The Cat People, PO Box
13610, Bakersfield, CA 93389 (661) 327-4706
