.Cecil Norman Bunton, 89, son of Glen and Hazel Bunton, died January 29, 2017, at home in Bakersfield. He was born November 16, 1927, in Porterville, CA. In 1945, Cecil joined the Merchant Marines, sailing around the world on the Edward P. Ripley. After returning to California he worked for Standard Oil; shortly thereafter he met and married Mildred Ross. Cecil and Mildred had two sons and three daughters. Cecil worked for Standard Oil until 1972 when he retired due to health reasons. He loved to play baseball/softball and played throughout his life. Cecil was also an avid photographer. Cecil and Mildred joined University Baptist Church, now Parkside Church, in 1965.
He is survived by his children, Delvin (Gail), Loleata (Steve) Wigall, Arlyn (Sue), Cynda Bunton, and Myra (Tom) Ragsdale, nine grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Cecil's name to Wycliffe Bible Translators, PO Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862.
Funeral services will be held on February 10, 11:30 AM at Parkside Church. Arrangements under the direction of Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Bakersfield, CA
