Cynthia Montsinger

Cynthia “Cindy” Kay Montsinger, 73, of Bakersfield, California, passed away peacefully at her home with her family on January 5, 2025. Born on April 11, 1951, in Bakersfield, Cindy spent her life in the city she cherished.

The beloved daughter of Ernest Allan Shields and Jean Marie Shields, Cindy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She raised two wonderful sons: Gregory Allen Shields and Brian Montsinger. Cindy adored her daughters-in-law, Yinnela Shields and Hee Jeong Yang, and was a proud grandmother to Alexandra Shields, William Montsinger, and Catherine Montsinger.

Cindy is also survived by her sisters, Carol Apperson, Karen Shields, and Sharon Newbry, who remember her as a guiding light in their family. She was predeceased by several cherished pets, including Sushi, Cookie, Molly, Cali, Cliff, Roxie, and Munchkin, but her love lives on in her dogs, Bob and Buddy, and her tortoise, Raphael.

Cindy was a highly accomplished professional, working at EA Shields Inc. before striking out on her own with CKM Bookkeeping. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her compassion and generosity. A devout Christian, Cindy dedicated much of her life to helping others, particularly through her tireless advocacy for animal welfare. She supported organizations such as Southern California Pom Rescue, For the Dogs Inc., and Nigeria Sky Animal Rescue. Cindy was also known to help individuals directly, assisting with pet medical bills and other needs.

Cindy’s faith and her boundless love for family, friends, and animals defined her life. She left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Details for a memorial service will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, on February 7th at 2 pm. Cindy’s family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an animal rescue organization of your choice in her honor.
