Devin was the second child of four born to Donald and Janet Deuel on February 15, 1958. He attended Orangewood Elementary, Edison Junior High, and Foothill High School where he enjoyed photography, history and was a tutor to many students. He also boasts that he graduated from the "school of hard knocks" later in life. Devin was an avid reader both in his youth and later in life, and because of this, was a walking encyclopedia (we often joked that Devin was the "google" long before it ever existed). Devin had a wonderful sense of humor and sarcasm was his second language.
Devin learned to be a skilled offset printer through his father, who operated Rabbit Reproduction. Devin struck out on his own, continuing in the printing trade under the original name Rabbit Reproduction, and then The Printing Arcade when he moved his operation into the Oildale News building on El Tejon Avenue. Devin was always so proud to tell everyone that one of our founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin, was also a printer. Around this time, Devin was awarded the title "Master Printer" by A.B. Dick for his skill in quality printing.
As technology changed, Devin moved from printing to copiers/fax/printers, becoming an authorized dealer for Canon, Kyocera, Sharp, Samsung and Muratec throughout the years, and eventually changing the name to "Arcade Copier Sales and Service".
During this time, he also worked as an independent contractor for other copier companies, where the stars aligned and he met his future wife Christine, who was managing a local copier company. They initially didn't hit it off, but Devin's charm (and sense of humor) won her over. They were married June 26, 1987.
Devin operated Arcade Copiers until he sold the business in 2019 and retired, with plans to just take it easy until Christine retired. Devin didn't miss the work, but definitely missed the customers who became friends.
Devin (and Christine) were animal lovers and never let any animal that crossed their path go hungry. Devin also believed strongly in spay/neuter, and spent time trapping and paying to have cats spayed/neutered, along with supporting animal adoption programs.
In retirement, Devin also began the process of restoring his 1970 VW Bug, which his mom and dad purchased new from Leo Meek Dealership in Bakersfield. Christine and Devin were VW enthusiasts and began adding to their collection and participating in VW events. Devin enjoyed hanging out with all the VW groups who are open and inviting to anyone who shared their love of VW's.
Due to a childhood birth defect in his hip, a few motorcycle accidents in his youth, and a broken back in 2009, Devin suffered lifelong pain. Despite this, he rarely slowed down nor let others know the pain he was experiencing. He lived life with no regrets, and always helped others, sometimes even to his own detriment. Other than immediate family, very few knew of his battle with cancer.
Special thanks goes out to Dr. Stephen Strategos, who was not only his physician but a good friend; Dr. Neeraj Agnihotri and the caring staff at AIS Cancer Center; the City of Hope; and the wonderful care provided by Hoffman Hospice. In addition, a huge debt of gratitude to our nephew Brent Robinson, who went above and beyond to care for Devin, sometimes just watching favorite TV shows/movies, driving him around, and visiting him daily.
Preceding Devin in death were his parents, father Donald Deuel, mother Janet Westfall and step father Mel Westfall, sister Cindy Walters, brother Bradley Deuel, and brother-in-law Greg Leyendecker.
Surviving Devin is his wife Christine of 38 years; son Stephen Fogle (Wendi); daughter Sara Valdez (Michael); sister Lorilee Leyendecker; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In order to ease the sorrow our entire family was feeling, some of Devin’s last words were “This Is the Way” (from his favorite show, The Mandalorian). It has been said "when a person dies, a library burns". That describes the loss we feel about Devin.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1st, 2025. For information please contact Tracy Richardson @ (661)301-2212.
