She was a loving wife and mother caring for her "boys" even until the end. Her family, both immediate and extended,
were everything to her. To sit at her table was to enjoy not only the wonderful cooking but the conversation and humor
that went along with the meal. She derived her greatest pleasure preparing meals to be enjoyed by our large family gatherings,
quite often by herself as it was her choice.
She was a new mother and bride when she came to Bakersfield in 1952. Wade, Oklahoma was her birthplace but Kern County was her home.
Her first home was Mettler and then Shafter as the work was in agriculture. As Dad worked in the oilfields she lived in Taft,
out at Belridge, into the Rio Bravo Greeley area before finally alighting in the Rosedale area. But for a few years in Oakhurst
the most of her days were here. She loved it here in Bakersfield and all the friends she made over the years.
She spent 26 years working at the Kern County Welfare offices in various capacities.
She was fiesty, opinionated, strong-willed, but loving and loyal most of all. She led her family to many successes
and was truly the matriarch of our small band. She was one of eleven children and was strong in character and morality.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lee Roy, her two sons, Dennis and Rick (all of Bakersfield), two sisters,
Gladys and Janelle of the Hanford area, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family asks those interested to make a donation in her name to either the Wounded Warriors,
Disabled Veterans, your local SPCA chapter or to your favorite charity . Even in her passing she still gives.
