

Bette was raised in Ontario, CA, often picking fruit with the family, and graduated from Chaffey High School in 1945. While in high school, Bette supported the war-effort working at the Kaiser Mill in Ontario. In 1946 she met Myron "Jack" Crume, a returning Navy Sea Bee veteran on a roller-skating date and started a lifelong adventure with Jack that lasted 55 years.
Bette was a loving mother to "the twins," daughter Susan M "Susie" & son Robert J "Bob", born in 1947, and son Richard A "Rick" born in 1957.
Jack & Bette were involved with the Kern County Boat & Ski Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Caledonia Masonic Lodge, The Kern County Shrine Club, & she was the Grand Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Caledonia Chapter. She and Jack loved to go camping and dirt bike riding with these organizations. Bette was a nationally renowned quilter and instructor based at Strawberry Patches quilt shop in Bakersfield. One of her quilts was featured on the cover of a national magazine. Her cooking skills and care for family and friends were well-known throughout her neighborhood. The kids of the neighborhood knew they could get a home-cooked meal from "Mrs. Crume. "Throughout her long-life Bette never lost sight of her commitment to God, family and country and was very proud of her husband’s and her son’s service.
Bette is preceded in death by her parents, brother Larry, husband Jack, & son Rick. She is survived by daughter Susan Landis (Larry), son Bob Crume (Sharon); Grandchildren Brian Landis (Melissa), Michelle Landis-Gearhart (Kyle), Robert Jeremy Crume, Ashleigh Crume, Lindsay Dotinga (Shane); Great-Grandchildren Kari Landis, Jacob Gearhart, Max Gearhart, Kaden Gearhart, and Roy Dotinga.
Chapel services will be held Tuesday, November 8, 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
A funeral service for Elizabeth will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306, followed by a graveside service.
