

Esther Cortez Arvizu 1929 - 2010 God created our precious Esther on July 11, 1929 in Victoria, Texas. He took her peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 10, 2010. For 80 years she served Our Lord as a faithful servant spreading God's love to family, friends and those around her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eusebio and Aurelia Cortez; daughter, Barbara Arvizu; son, Reynaldo 'Daddy Ray' Arvizu; and five siblings, Mike, Rose, Catherine, Julia, and Isabel. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Reynaldo Rene Arvizu; her granddaughter, Augusta Arvizu; five of her siblings and their respective families: (Sophia Padilla, Oralia Valdez, Amelia Seng, John Cortez, Joe Cortez); brother and sister- in-law, Mary Frances Arvizu and Dr. Steven Arvizu and their families; and many members of the Cortez, Velasco, Ortiz, Lopez, and Soto families. Loved by all including many nephews, nieces, comadres, and compadres, she shall be remembered for her endearing qualities and service to others in need. Our family thanks the Bakersfield medical community, the Olive Drive Senior Center Alzheimer's Program, and the California Care Rehabilitation Center for their assistance in helping us to understand and care for our Dear Esther. Viewing will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, at Hillcrest Mortuary. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
