
Everett Howard Mercer Sr. 1921 - 2011 Visitation will be today Wednesday, May 25, from 4-8 p.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 26, 10:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Everett Howard Mercer Sr., born the son of George Harvey Mercer and Minnie May Sparrow Mercer on March 20, 1921 at Oakland, CA, departed this life May 21, 2011 at West Plains, MO, at the age of 90 years. On October 1, 1941 in Stockton, CA, he was joined in marriage to his life - long sweetheart, Josephine Salvaggio. many happy years were spent making a home for the children. They especially enjoyed camping and fishing and passed on those skills and interests to children and grandchildren alike. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Jean Farrar of Bakersfield, CA; son, Everett Howard Mercer Jr. and wife Jo of Huston, MO; son, Marvin Russell Mercer and wife, Shirley of Peace Valley, MO; 5 grandchildren, Robert Farrar Jr., Brian and Carrie Mercer, and Jeannie and Becky Farrar; 19 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Mercer was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; mother, father, three sisters and two brothers. He was honorably discharged in 1946 after serving in the Untied States Army during World War II. He was awarded the European Africa Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. For the next several decades he worked in the construction and oil industries in Bakersfield, CA including 30 years at Griffith Company, providing for his family before retiring to devote his time caring for his wife.
