Guadalupe Marie Boyce went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2012. After being diagnosed with brain cancer in January. Marie began a strong, but, very brief struggle and succumbed to complications related to the disease. Marie was born in Bakersfield and grew up in Lamont. She is the daughter of Frank and Jennie Ortiz and the sister of Rudy Ortiz. Marie graduated from Arvin High School in 1965. As an adult Marie resided and raised her family in Bakersfield. Marie worked at the California Water Service Company for 38 years leaving behind many longtime friends. Marie was also very active in the union at Cal Water, serving in various capacities through the years, including president. In her spare time Marie enjoyed knitting, beading, making jewelry, cooking, and music. Of all these activities none compared to the enjoyment she got from spending time with and talking about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marie was proud of all their accomplishments and proudly displayed their pictures at her work desk for all to see. Although Marie left us entirely too soon, she's left behind a legacy of love that will be with us through our lifetimes. She is survived by her mother, Jennie Ortiz. Marie is also survived by her son, Kellen Boyce and his wife, Jennie. And, her daughter, Krisa Ortega and her husband, Paul. Marie has five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. With her love for Jesus we rest assured that she is with our Lord and Savior. Marie was preceded in death by her father, Frank Ortiz, her brother, Rudy Ortiz, and her niece, Kari Ortiz. On Thursday, May 10th a picture and music tribute will begin at about 5:30 followed by a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel located at 9101 Kern Canyon Rd. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 11th at St. Augustine Church located at 10601 Myrtle Rd in Lamont. After the service, a graveside ceremony will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park followed by a reception on the park grounds for all who love Marie. Our family would like to thank Dr. Patel, Dr. Desai, and all the kind staff at CBCC, as well as, Dr Ashraf and the wonderful ICU nurses and respiratory therapists at Memorial Hospital. Your efforts, skills, and compassion will not be forgotten. And also, a special thank you to the employees of Cal Water whose kindness to our family has been a blessing beyond belief.
