Gwenda Cheryl Jones

Gwenda, Gwen to all who knew and loved her was born on March 24, 1946. Gwen was born to Blanche and Edward Garrison. She was the youngest and the only girl of 3 children. She had 2 brothers Fred Garrison and Bob Garrison.

Gwen was known for her love of children and her work ethic. While working her way through college Gwen held several jobs. In 1970 she received her Teaching Credential; she went on to earn a bilingual certification and Master’s Degree. She touched over 1200 lives during her 37 years as a teacher. When she retired, she continued to touch countless lives through her work as a substitute teacher.

Gwen was married to her husband James Jones Jr in 1987. She was a committed wife to her husband. She enjoyed being showered with flowers and enjoying a night in the town with her love. In July of 1990, they welcomed their miracle baby James Jones III. At this time, she was committed to being the most amazing mother that a son could ever have. In 2008, she welcomed her first grandchild Jamaria Jones and later in 2011 she welcomed her grandson, James Jones IV. They were the light of her life besides her son. She became a full-time grandmother and part time caretaker for her grandchildren.

Gwen was a loving and kind soul that was very frugal. She would rather spend less on herself to give her family the world. She was selfless and welcomed anyone who needed her help. She was a strong woman who was not afraid to speak her mind. She was known for wit and an amazing sense of humor. Her all-time favorite artist was Elvis Presley. She also couldn’t resist dancing to “Just Got Paid” by Johnny Kemp. Her and her husband would always be up early in the morning just so that they wouldn’t miss their daily news. Also, during the evening hours, you would commonly find her on the couch either watching dancing with the stars or any movies that she had recorded on cable while eating mozzarella cheese.

Gwen leaves behind her 6 fur babies Kizzy, Nicky, Rosetta, Ebony, Bugsy, and Cooper. But her two dogs that she loved the most were Minnie and Dotty who passed away before her. Gwenda Jones is preceded in death by her brother Fred, her mother Blanche, and her father Edward. She is survived by her husband, son, daughter-in-law Tia, brother Bob, and her grandchildren. She is also survived by the countless number of friends and family that she cared for so very much.

A graveside service for Gwenda will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
