Hubie was born in Terre Haute, Indiana to Fred and Francis Hodges, the youngest of six children. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jimmy; his parents; brothers, Harold, Howard, John, Hollis; and sister, Itsy Drew. Hubie was a great patriot and served as a fighter pilot during WWII, serving in Europe. He was shot down over Italy and was a POW, having many stories that enthralled family over the years. He was a near scratch golfer until age 82 when he put his clubs away. Shortly after moving to Bakersfield in 1976 he joined AA which remained the focal point in his life. He leaves behind a legacy of assisting others and the gratitude of countless alcoholics. Hubie was a dedicated family man, with a rich sense of humor and fun, who will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his daughters, Becky Helvie and Marti Hodges of Bakersfield, Cathy (Loren) Cook of Folsom, CA, and Beth (Ernie) Nevin of Wisconsin. Grandchildren include Amanda and Sam Helvie; Jeff, Ryan, Matt and Mark Nevin. Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6th, 2:00 p.m., at the Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, with a celebration of memories of his life at the Alano Club to follow at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alano Club of Bakersfield in his honor: 1001 34th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301.
