James Herbert Kimber was born to Alpine and Louisa Kimber on February 28, 1919 in Bakersfield, California. His education began at Edison Elementary. He graduated from Kern County Union High School (now known as BHS) and continued his education by completing a business degree. He served his country in the Air Corp of the army as a staff sergeant where he fell in love with Alaska. After his tour of duty ended he returned to Bakersfield and began a long bookkeeping career with King Lumber Company. After 40 years of service, the company was sold and he spent the next 20 plus years as a bookkeeper in the lumber business. On June 25, 1957 he married Barbara Summerford and had two daughters Judy and Jeanene. They built a home together and for 54 years lived happily ever after. He loved to fish on the Kern River, cut lumber, and take scenic drives with his best friend Bruce Erickson. He also loved to bowl and was on a league for several years. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and was loved by all who came to know him. He will be greatly missed and the only consolation to us is that he is at peace with the angels and is looking down on us with a young body and mind. Love you Jim and love you so very much Dad. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, his two daughters Judy Judkins and Jeanene Champieux, son-in-law Greg Judkins, his granddaughter Tiffany Champieux, his grandsons, Tanner Judkins, Taylor Judkins, and Thomas Champieux. Public viewing will be held Thursday evening October 13th from 6pm - 8pm and a Graveside service we be held Friday October 14th, 11am at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
