Jerry was born in Sidney, Nebraska on May 27,1945 to parents Raymond, Sr. & Beulah Anthony. He attended Sidney High School and graduated in the Class of 1963 and then got accepted to Oklahoma University where he studied Petroleum Engineering, graduating with a Bachelors degree, while also getting married to his high school sweetheart. After some internships in the field, he was off with his wife, Sherrie and his 2 sons, Trent, and Troy, to his first job assignment in the deserts of Tripoli, Libya with Amoseas Oil Company in 1968.
It was here that he took advantage of the close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea and began his scuba diving exploits which lasted throughout his 5.5 year stay there. Many opportunities were also enjoyed with dive trips in neighboring locations of Malta and Greece. Jerry’s son, Raymond Anthony III, was born here in 1972 with the assistance of a British mid-wife. The family continued to live there until increasing political unrest caused an exodus for many American and British expatriates living there.
The next destination for the family was the jungles of Rumbai, Sumatra, Indonesia with Caltex Oil Company, a very different environment with very different experiences. This is where the family began its Karate journey which continued for many years afterwards. By the end of their 4.5 year stay in the country, Jerry and Trent had earned their Black belts, becoming the first expatriates ever to accomplish that. Sherrie and Troy managed to earn their Brown belts. Many jungle adventures later, it became time to move back to the States where Trent and Troy began Junior and Senior High School and Raymond began grade school.
When they arrived in Houston, Texas, it was a culture shock for the family after living overseas for 10 years and attending smaller American schools and residing in more modest housing and neighborhoods. All 3 boys were now in school and trying to acclimate to the changes from their previous lives. They continued with new challenges, experiences and growth. In 1985, Jerry took a job with Occidental Oil in Bakersfield, California and moved the family yet again to a new adventure.
The new surroundings brought new activities, which included motocross, mountain biking and excellent hiking … all of which were enjoyed often. Many trips to 5-Dogs Shooting range were spent shooting the many ranges available there, including the Cowboy Action Shooting range & sporting clays every chance they got. The tragic passing of Sherrie, Raymond & Troy brought yearning for some new scenery after 34 years and the Wyoming lifestyle sounded good enough to take a leap and pull up stakes again.
Jerry and Trent took off for Cody in October of 2019 to find a ranch with river frontage so they could relax and fish to their hearts’ content. They moved into the new place in January 2020 and did exactly that. Jerry continued to follow his dream of ranching and raising steers and fishing until his death on Mother’s Day in 2026. He became very involved in church and forged many cherished friendships there while attending services, Bible studies and Fellowship. Many of these new friends provided much needed support and care during Jerry’s illness that will be forever appreciated.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Sherrie (Burrows) Anthony, Sons: Troy and Raymond III, Parents: Raymond Sr. and Beulah Anthony, Siblings: Sisters: Lorraine Brownfield and Evelyn Jones, Brother: Raymond Anthony Jr.
