John Lorenzi July 5, 1935 - November 6, 2013 John was an amazing person. He was a beloved son, brother, veteran, husband, brother-in-law, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He could be cranky, but what a wonderful man. John will be sorely missed, and many hearts are broken with his sudden passing. John was the son of Gino and Margurite and the brother of Gene, whom he greatly admired, loved, and worked with during his 34-year career as a meat cutter at Quality Meat Company. John also enjoyed growing up and spending time with his cousins - Margaret, Barney, and Rosie. He served in the Navy on the USS Carpenter as cook, fireman, and sharp shooter. He and his ex-wife Christine were the proud parents of Suzi Piper and Mike Lorenzi. He was always there for his children, and spending time with them was his favorite activity. John was the best father-in-law. He loved his son-in-law Tedd and his daughter-in-law Georgina just as much as he loved his children - okay, maybe more. However, the first thing John did when he came to visit his family was to give treats to the dogs. The families' dogs would squeal with delight whenever he came to visit. He especially loved Charlie, a Labrador retriever who thought of himself as a lap dog. His greatest joy, however, was his grandsons, Tyler and Jory. Those boys meant the world to him and were his pride and joy. Thankfully, John and his grandsons shared many great times together. Tyler and Jory's best memories will always include their grandpa. Suzi and Tedd recently hosted a family reunion, which brought John so much joy that he did not want the evening to end. Thank you, Nicole, for taking so many great pictures. The family will forever treasure them. The family wishes to thank the Lorenzi family for the special love they shared with John - Marilyn, Donna, Cherie, Nicole, Amy, Jason, John, and all of their spouses and children. Who knew this would be his last family reunion? Also special to John was his nephew John "brother" Lorenzi whom the entire family has missed. John always spoke of how much he treasured family vacations at the beach and mountains. He especially enjoyed family vacations in Oxnard and Ventura. If there was one thing that John wanted to be remembered for, it was his commitment to his family. John enjoyed dancing, carving walking sticks, feeding hummingbirds, and riding bicycles with his friend Jack. He absolutely loved riding his bike and feeling the air breeze by. Even when he was not able to ride in the last few years, he would talk of the joy he felt when riding. He continued to bike until his hips and legs no longer cooperated. John loved to discuss politics, the latest televised trial, and other current events. He was a wonderful cook and enjoyed family meals. John's life was filled with so many wonderful friends - Barney, Cordell, Buddy, Butch, Jack, and his new friend and neighbor Ron. John's family cannot thank you enough, Ron, for the friendship and kindness you shared with your new, cantankerous neighbor. Memorial services will be held at 10 AM, November 16, 2013 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and all are invited to join us and share their memories and tall tales of John. In lieu of flowers, John's family requests that you take time to love the elderly in your lives.
