Linnie Mae Byrd "Tootie" 1920 - 2011 Tootie was born in Oklahoma December 14, 1920, to parents Preston and Linnis Smith, and was the oldest of five children. She and her family moved to Bakersfield at the age of sixteen. Her childhood sweetheart, Robert Byrd made the move with she and her family. Robert and Tootie were married a short time later and began their family. Tootie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very kind and loving person and always spoke highly of everyone. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Tootie loved the outdoors she enjoyed camping, fishing and just sitting around a campfire. She enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with her sisters and good friend Donna Steers. Tootie was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-two years, Robert Byrd; parents, Preston and Lennis Smith; brothers, Robert and Eddy Smith; sisters, Juanita Dye and Allen Boen; son, Marvin Byrd and infant son Calvin. She is survived by her son Mel and wife Judy; grandson, Kelvin and wife Tracy; granddaughter, Trisha and husband Chris Steers; grandson, Marvin, Jr. and wife Lorie, Aaron and wife Lorie; granddaughter, Marilyn and husband Phil Hannes; ten great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank her long time friend Donna Steers for all her help and kindness she gave over the years. The family would also like to thank the staff at Rosewood for the exceptional care. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary at 12:00 p.m. Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary.
