It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Marc Stuart Luter, 71, of Bakersfield, CA, on May 1, 2025, of natural causes. Marc was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born on September 6, 1953, to Richard (Dick) and Audrey Luter in Bakersfield, California.
Marc attended local schools in Bakersfield, including Foothill High School, where he met the love of his life, Laura Mays. Their bond was strong from the start, and they went on to share a beautiful marriage that lasted 54 years. Together, Marc and Laura built a loving family, raising four children. Over the years, the family lived in Bakersfield, Fresno, and Tehachapi before settling in Bakersfield, the city they called home.
Marc began his career in the produce industry at Alpha Beta, later finding success in the automotive world, where he proudly owned and operated several car lots and managed sales for over two decades. In the early 2000s, he transitioned into real estate, where he continued to work passionately as a broker and agent, helping families find their homes until the time of his passing.
Marc is survived by his beloved wife Laura, his children Marc Luter and wife Aimee, Amanda Warren and husband Mark, Elizabeth Purvis and husband Kevin, and Michael Luter, ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and another great-grandchild on the way, his brother Brook Luter and wife Mary, and sister Karen Oliveras, and numerous nieces and nephews. His greatest joy was spending time with his family—cheering at band competitions and concerts, sporting events, hosting movie nights and sleepovers, gathering for lively dinners, and taking trips filled with laughter and love.
An avid competitor, Marc developed a passion for tennis and spent many happy years playing in tournaments at Laurel Glen Tennis Club and the Bakersfield Racquet Club. In more recent years, he embraced pickleball, often playing with friends and family on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings—his spirit and energy on the court were as strong as ever.
Marc will be remembered by his family and friends for his sharp wit, entrepreneurial spirit, and warm and generous heart. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and deep connection that will be cherished by all who knew him.
We invite you to join us in remembering his life. A public viewing will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93306, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
A funeral service to honor Marc’s memory will take place on Monday, May 19, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 4500 Buena Vista Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93311, at 1:30 PM, followed by a reception at the church.
