Maria Esther Ahumada, 77, of Bakersfield, California, passed away on March 14, 2026. Maria was beloved, compassionate, devoted, faithful, generous, gentle, hard-working, honest, humorous, inspirational, kind-hearted, loyal, patient, resilient, selfless, thoughtful, and wise—qualities that shaped the way she loved, served, and cared for those around her.
Born April 2, 1948, Maria grew up in Uvalde, Texas. She later came to California, attended Arvin High School, and graduated—carrying forward the determination and steady work ethic that would define her life.
In 1968, Maria married her husband, Domingo Ahumada. Together they built a family rooted in love and devotion. Maria was a devoted mother to her children: Armando Ahumada, Anita Ahumada, and Armin Ahumada.
Maria found joy in the simple, meaningful rhythms of everyday life. She enjoyed watching old movies, coin collecting, spending countless hours on the phone talking with her sisters and friends, walking, and taking care of her yard. She loved family gatherings and, when it was possible, going to the casino.
Maria’s legacy is found in the depth of her love—especially for her children, family, and friends, and in her special love for her grandchildren. She was always checking in with neighbors and friends, and she remained loyal and devoted to her husband. Above all, Maria was faithful, drawing strength from her Catholic religion and devotion to her faith.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Ted Wittington for all he did, to the staff at Memorial Hospital, and to Dora Ahumada, Michael Ahumada, and cousins Lilly and Diane for being there for Armin and Anita. The family also thanks all other family and friends for their prayers and thoughts.
Maria often offered this reminder: “Don’t hate anyone for one day they will answer for what they did”. Mom, you will be missed but remember we all love you!!
