

Mary Joyce Newhouse, 77, passed away at San Joaquin Hospital last Friday after a long battle with cancer. Mary was born to parents Henry and Edna Madison in Telephone, Texas and moved to Kern County in 1947. She attended Arvin High School, and after overcoming many difficulties, achieved one of her biggest goals; she went back to college to earn her AA degree at Bakersfield College. Mary devoted over 34 years of her life in the employment of Bakersfield City School District, helping numerous children in the Special Education Program. Mary is proceeded in death by her parents and sisters Faye Wilson and Patricia Ogden. She is survived by her brothers Chuck Goss, Albert Madison, and Bob Madison; her sisters Velma Patch, Josephine Briscoe, Lois Royal, Judy Rounke, Joan Madison; and her children, Karen Comstock, Brenda Rocha and son-in-law Larry. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with one still on the way. Mary was known to her family simply as "Grams ", and they were, one and all, the ultimate source of joy in her life. She was loved dearly by all for her support and generosity. "...and think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched...for nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so much." Viewing will be held at Hillcrest Mortuary on Friday, December 7th. at 4-8 p.m. Services will be held at Hillcrest Mortuary on Saturday, December 8th. at 1:00 p.m.
