

Our gentle mother and grandmother Monica Nieto Burrola died Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the age of 98. Grandma leaves her family with love, fond memories and many life lessons that she bestowed on her daughters and grandchildren. Grandma will continue to live in us, as we tell her stories and remember her love.
Monica Nieto was born on September 24, 1918 in Winslow, Arizona. On March 28, 1942 Monica married her great love Nick Burrola in a simple civil ceremony at the court house in Gallup, New Mexico. A few years after they married, Monica and Nick moved to Bakersfield, CA in 1946 where they lived and raised their family. For over fifty years, Monica was a licensed day care provider as well as a foster mother to many children. Monica and Nick were lovingly married for 51 years upon his death, April 30, 1993. Monica is survived by her daughters Sandra Chavaria and Eva Pacheco; Grandchildren Cindi (Mitch) Canfield, Lisa (Frank) Castro, Stephanie (Ross) Sweet, Steven Chavaria; Great Grandchildren Crystal Cole, Danielle (Josh) Lopez, Jordan Cole, Alec Sweet, Nick Chavaria, Jessica Canfield; Great Great Grandchildren Jayden Johnson, Preslee and Joshua Lopez, Grayson Sweet.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents Jose Maria Nieto and Maria Amaro; step-father Martin Gomez; brothers Josito Nieto Gomez, Jose Nieto, Santiago Nieto; sisters Charlotte Pichardo, and Dolores Cabral.
Visitation and Eulogy Service will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary (In Chapel). 9101 Kern Canyon Road from 5:00-9:00 pm. Mass of Resurrection will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church with Father Bert Mello presiding, 124 Columbus Street at 10:00 am. Interment following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary.
Our family would like to say thank you to the nurses, certified nurses assistants, and staff at Evergreen Bakersfield Post Acute Care for their extraordinary loving care they gave to Grandma and our family.
