

A proud resident of Bakersfield for much of his life, Nate also worked briefly out of town but always considered Bakersfield home. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was discharged with distinction.
Nate had a deep passion for basketball and enjoyed cheering on the Los Angeles Lakers and Sparks. His love for sports brought him joy and connection with those around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores Ruiz; his son, Gabriel Ruiz; his daughter, Carissa Thomas; and a large extended family that includes grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many others who will cherish his memory.
Services to honor Nate’s life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025. The viewing will take place from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Truth Tabernacle Church, located at 214 Hosking Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93307. The funeral service will follow from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held from 2 PM to 3 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park (Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest), located at 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., Bakersfield, CA 93306. A reception will follow back at Truth Tabernacle Church.
Nate’s legacy of service and love for family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and peace to those he leaves behind.
