Opal Mae Castleberry

Opal Castleberry, age 99, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2023 in Bakersfield, California.

Opal was born in Kenefic, Oklahoma on December 16, 1923 to Dallas and Iva Fleming.

Opal attended school at Kenefic School and

Cobb High School.

Opal went to work at North American Aviation in Grand Prairie, Texas around 1942, assembling war planes.

Opal and JT Castleberry were sweethearts that carried on their romance, by mail, during T's service in the Navy. Upon his return from the war, they married on October 17, 1946. The following year, they moved to California to begin their new life together.

Opal became a liberated woman in the 60's and went to work for several years at Sears in Santa Monica, California

Opal was an avid gardener and enjoyed camping and travel

A graveside service for Opal will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
