

Paul Williams Peacock September 23, 1925 - October 20, 2011 Paul Williams Peacock passed away on October 20, 2011. He was born in Bakersfield, California on September 23, 1925. He was the second child of Wayne and Juanita Peacock. He is survived by his sister, Joan Holladay and his brother Parker Peacock, both of Bakersfield, California. Paul attended Bakersfield High School and graduated in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy in W.W.II, on an aircraft carrier, fighting in the Pacific Theater of the war. Before and after his stint in the Navy, he was a student at U.C. Berkeley where he studied Zoology. In 1947, he transferred to U.C. Davis to attend veterinary school. He was proud to be a part of the first graduating class in 1951. He met Carol Curry of San Francisco, California at U.C. Davis. They were married in 1951. They lived in Bakersfield where Paul worked as the manager for his father's dairy, Wayne's Dairy. They had six children: Marie Peacock Dittrich, Teresa Peacock, Carrie Peacock Head, Jill Peacock, David Peacock and Melanie Peacock-Griffin. In 1968, Paul purchased a pet hospital in Oakland, California. He practiced small animal medicine at the High-MacArthur Pet Hospital for seventeen years. During this time, Paul was active in the Lion's Club and the Alameda County Veterinary Association, where he served two terms as president. Paul retired in 1985 and moved to Santa Barbara where he enjoyed an active retired life. He spent many pleasurable and contemplative evenings, living in the Carpinteria beach house his father had left the family. Paul was a devoted and accomplished veterinarian, who lived a well-rounded life enjoying opera, baseball, snow skiing and traveling to Europe. He was an avid Oakland A's fan and every year he enjoyed traveling to Phoenix for the spring-training baseball games. He will be sorely missed by his former wife Carol and children Marie, Teresa, Carrie, Jill, David and Melanie and grandchildren, Melissa Dittrich, Lucy Griffin, Ashley and Ryan Head, Ian Murphy and Samuel Peacock. A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 2 p.m. www.bakersfield.com/obits
