Philip was born in Bakersfield, California on December 13, 1964 to Claudine Garcia-Burks and Marcello F. Garcia. He went to be with Jesus on March 16, 2021. He is now with his sisters (Dina and Trudie) and brother (Zekiel ) in heaven.
He was an Eagle Scout, “tapped in” Order Of the Arrow, and Debonair special dancer student. He went to Height Street Baptist Church, Virginia Avenue Elementary School, Fairfax Junior High School and Foothill High School. Philip enjoyed assisting his community by helping and feeding the homeless. He also helped by handing out school supplies to needy children. He volunteered alongside his mother, Claudine, and sister, Dina, by helping with Awana’s kids and Children’s Ministry. While living in Surprise, Arizona, Philip assisted with the set up and breakdown for Celebrate Recovery meetings. Philip loved talking with the men in CR. His greatest achievements were earning the rank of Eagle Scout, hours of community service, and being on the Special Olympics swim team in 2015. Philip enjoyed working at Fostering Hope farm with horses and spending time with his family. Philip had a heart of gold and walked the Earth as Jesus did. He leaves a legacy of compassion and loyalty. He is survived by his mother Claudine, step-father Barry, brothers Ruben Garcia and Richard Reyes, sisters Lollie (Marcella) Elliott and Francee Michael, and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
There will be a viewing on April 16, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Height Street Baptist Church, located at 1010 Height St., Bakersfield, CA 93305, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m.
A Graveside Service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at Height Street Baptist Church.
